PM Modi US Visit: Fighter aircraft engines will be produced in India, GE Aerospace deals with HAL

Prime Minister Narendra Modi For joint production of fighter aircraft engines in India.

Earlier the White House had said that the historic summit between PM Modi and US President Joe Biden here would result in some major defense deals, including co-production of jet engines.

A senior Biden administration official said a few hours before the meeting between the two leaders, ‘‘The US-India defense partnership has been going strong for many years, but we have now entered the next generation of defense partnership. ’’

The official said that three important results are expected regarding the defense partnership in the summit meeting. He said that one of the ‘unprecedented’ which is for co-production of jet engines. The US and India are welcoming General Electric’s (GE) proposal to jointly produce the F414 jet engine. GE and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have signed a memorandum of understanding and an export license agreement has been assigned to be notified by the US Congress.

The senior administration official said, ‘This is a path-breaking initiative to manufacture the F-414 engine in India and will pave the way for a large-scale transfer of American jet engine technology.’’

The officer said that the second thing is the repair of the ship. He said, ‘‘The US Navy has entered into ship repair agreements, which are going to prove cost-effective and time-saving for the US military at various locations. This will allow US Navy ships to be repaired at Indian shipyards.’’

The official said, ‘‘And then there is the Defense Innovation Tie-up, also known as Indus X.’’ It was launched on June 21, which is a ‘University Incubator Think Tank’ And there is a network between private investment stakeholders. “It is going to promote joint innovation on defense technologies,” he said.
